Ballaghaderreen artist releases third single

Ballaghaderreen artist Death Milkshake has released his third single and music video entitled ‘Algorithm'.
Ballaghaderreen artist Death Milkshake has released his third single and music video entitled ‘Algorithm.’ The Alt-Rock influenced electronic artist recorded the video in Ballaghaderreen with the entire crew and cast based in the locality. The crew consisted of Death Milkshake (Director), Marek Petrovic (Director of Photography), Stephen Browne (First Assistant Director) and Evelyn Byrne (Make up and Behind The Scenes).
The local cast includes Lorna Duffy as the main character, with David Drake, Tuesday Whitfield and Julie Sharkey in supporting roles.
Death Milkshake was able to count on support from Ballaghaderreen businesses Kelly TV and Electronics, Duffy’s Super Valu, The Little Oak charity shop and Spell’s Bar. He said that the support was appreciated with the local businesses all helping them film the five and a half minute music video.
“It is brilliant. It is really nice to have that local support. We had a few places in mind and luckily enough the local businesses were all willing to help. We had back-ups but luckily, we didn’t need them. Everyone was willing to help so it was great that way.” The Roscommon artist said that writing and producing ‘Algorithm’ was a sizeable task as he sought to build upon the success of his previous two singles ‘Shiny Thing’ and ‘Megaphone.’ “It is a huge process writing a song. I am all on my own while I try and write the music in such a way that it can be live looped when performed live. The song itself was written over a year ago while we were four or five months planning the music video and making sure we had everything we needed. It was a lot of work so hopefully people enjoy it.” The lyrics are a comment on the divisive nature of what the internet has become, and a reminder that the various algorithms we encounter every day can shape our thoughts and feelings in ways we would not have thought possible in the past.

The video reflects that in showing the journey of a person’s day through the town of Ballaghaderreen.
The song is rounded off with a nod to the future by the artist’s four year old daughter (Ziggy) speaking the prophetic words of David Bowie when discussing the potential of the Internet back in 1999.
Bowie stated “I think we are actually on the cusp of something exhilarating and terrifying” when asked about the Internet in an interview with the BBC before the turn of the century.
Death Milkshake feels that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the next phenomenon, much in the same way the Internet was back 25 years ago, which is why he felt having his young daughter utter Bowie’s lines from the interview was in ways a full circle moment.
“The actual clip of Bowie from the BBC interview would have required us to get the sample cleared which would have been difficult. Instead, we had the words spoken and what he is talking about ties into her (Ziggy) being in a world on the cusp of AI the same way we were on the cusp of the Internet 25 years ago.” The Ballaghaderreen artist hopes the single and EP will receive support and that the community will rally once more to help promote on of their own.
“The hope really is just to get eyes on the single and EP. It is a different game now compared to what it was 20 years ago. You can’t expect a financial return. The hope is that I can build momentum towards bigger gigs and try release an album in the future. For now, it is just about getting eyes and ears on the music.” The single is available on major streaming services, and as a digital download from www.deathmilkshake.com and Bandcamp.
‘Algorithm’ will be included in Death Milkshake’s debut EP which will be titled ‘Shiny Things’. The six track EP will be released on Wednesday, April 17th on CD, and as a digital download from Bandcamp or from www.deathmilkshake.com.
Death Milkshake will celebrate his EP launch with a one off hometown launch show in the historic Edmondstown House, Ballaghaderreen, on Saturday April 20th. This will be the first show of this nature to take place in the building's 160-year history. Tickets are available from https://deathmilkshake.com/shows.
