Athleague reaching for the stars in All-Ireland junior club camogie final

ALL-IRELAND CLUB FINAL: Athleague travel to Coralstown-Kinnegad GAA club in Kinnegad on Saturday afternoon next at 1 p.m. to take on Granemore from Armagh in the All-Ireland Junior A club Final. This is the second occasion in the club’s history that the seniors have reached the All-Ireland Junior club final. Their last final was in 2015 against Johnstownbridge from Kildare, which was also played at the same venue. Eight of the starting team on that day will line out again on Saturday next, with five more of that panel still involved either as player or a substitute. The players involved are as follows: Paula Daly, Elaine Daly, Éala Ni Chumhaill, Chloe Whyte Lennon, Kelley Hopkins, Niamh Conway, Rachel Fitzmaurice, Rebecca Brennan, Laura Fleming, Niamh Farrell, Annette McDermott, Fiona Connell Jones and Leanne Kelly.
GOOD LUCK: The club would like to wish dual senior player Laura Fleming the best of luck on her wedding day on this Friday, December 15th. Laura is to be married to Jonathan Mannion in Kilbegnet Church, and she will have a busy weekend with the All-Ireland club final on the following day.
CONGRATULATIONS: The club would like to congratulate Aideen O’Brien, Tara O’Brien and Ella Lynch who were members of the Convent of Mercy Team who won the Connacht Colleges Senior C Camogie Final on Wednesday last against Portumna. Aideen was the captain of the Team and all three members are part of the senior team for the All-Ireland final.
SYMPATHY: The club would like to extend sympathy to the following under age players: Éabha Kilcommons on the occasion of the death of grandmother, Kathleen Kilcommons and Saoirse Heavey on the occasion of the death of her grandfather, Michael Heavey.
The bonus ball draw took place on Saturday night, congratulations to the two winners, Tony Callaghan and Martina Gaynor. The draw continues every Saturday night. Contact any member of the executive committee to enter. The club are looking for volunteers to do some work around the pitch over the Christmas break. LOTTO: The online lotto was drawn last Sunday for a top prize of €6,500. The match three winners were Bríd and Conor McGowan, and John Harrington, and the jackpot was not won. The jackpot now stands at €6,600 and will be drawn at the usual time of 9 p.m. next Sunday.
UPCOMING EVENTS: The Boyle GAA/LGFA Dinner Dance takes place in Kilronan Castle on Saturday, January 20th. Tickets are €50 and are on sale via Klubfunder, Tickets will also go on sale in the GAA Clubhouse via cash sales at a future date, yet to be confirmed.
Pat and Marguerite McGovern, Gurteen, won the weekly 50/50 Draw with a record jackpot of €536. The draw takes place every Monday evening, and there will be one guaranteed lucky jackpot winner each week. Gurteen bingo continues this Friday at 8 p.m. with the jackpot at €2,700 in 47 calls or less. The in-house lotto jackpot one is €250. There will be extra prizes every Friday night in December.
LOTTO: There was no jackpot winner and no €100 winner this week. The €20 winners were: Ross Nolan, Denise Deery, Sharon Behan Woods, Mary and Pat, Des Flanagan. Next week's Jackpot will be €7,100 and the draw will take place in the Village Inn next Sunday night.
ROSCOMMON LGFA OFFICERS 2024: Congratulations to Pat Heneghan, who has been elected vice-chairperson of Roscommon LGFA. Pat has been a staunch supporter of ladies football in the club for decades and has been a former club LGFA chairperson. Congratulations too to Sinead Osgood who was elected as assistant treasurer at the recent county AGM. Sinéad is the current chairperson of Michael Glaveys LGFA committee and has also given many years of service to ladies football in this club. They are both wished every success in their roles. The new chairperson of Roscommon LGFA is Declan Walsh from Roscommon Gaels and he is wished every success in his role.
2024 DRAW: The club urges all members, supporters and friends to support the exciting draw which takes place on December 31st. The grand prize is 2024 euro which will be won on the night, but there are many fabulous spot prizes, including a Christmas hamper.
GET WELL SOON: The club wishes a speedy recovery to Shane Cummins, a former club player and brother to current club and county player Helena. Shane is recovering from a serious accident in Castlerea recently. The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the club and connected with the club are with Shane and the Cummins family at this worrying time.
COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING: Thank you to everyone who attended the Shannon Gaels One Club Christmas tree lighting service on Saturday, and a special thanks to Santa who made an appearance during his very busy season! A huge thank you to the club’s health and wellbeing committee and all of the volunteers who contributed to the success of this event.
CONGRATULATIONS: Huge congratulations to Declan Kennedy and Ben O'Connor making the county minor squad and representing Shannon Gaels. Congratulations also to Kilmore/Shannon Gaels teammates Darragh Devaney and Joe McKeon also making the minor county squad. This is a great achievement to have four representatives for Kilmore/Shannon Gaels.
50/50 DRAW: Congratulations to this week’s 50/50 draw winner, Rosie Harkin from Donegal, who won €1,020. Thank you to everyone who has supported our new 50/50 draw.
HAMPER DRAW AND TABLE QUIZ: Last weekend got the Christmas season off to a great start, as the adult ladies’ and men's squads hosted the Christmas jumper night out in the Village. This weekend it's a more sensible and sedate affair as the ever-popular table quiz takes place in Keenan’s on Saturday night, December 16th. The annual Monster Hamper Draw will also take place on the night. Tickets are available locally, priced at €2 each or three for €5. Many thanks to all the members who contributed to the hampers, and to Eoin O’Boyle and Eddie at CEM Ltd for their sponsorship.
LOTTO: The club lotto draw keeps rolling on and the jackpot remains unclaimed. The Jackpot remains at €15,000, with the next jackpot amount building in the background. Entry is available online, or through the envelopes available locally, and of course you could still win one of the €50 Lucky Dips every week. Subscriptions are available online, and make a great Christmas gift idea, especially for family and friends no longer living locally. SUPER FUEL AND HOLIDAY DRAW: Thanks to all the volunteers who braved the weather to promote the club’s fundraiser over the weekend. KIDS’ DISCO: Tibohine Hall is the venue this Saturday, December 16th, for Western Gaels’ Kids’ Disco from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.. The cost is €10 per child and €20 per family. This is a cash-only event with proceeds going towards the development of ladies' football teams at all ages. Music and fun guaranteed with a VIP visitor also!
