RICHAEL Glinsk GAA Club would like to wish Richael Timothy all the very best as she departs for the Paralympic Games in Paris. Richael will be competing in her second Paralympics having previously represented her country at the Tokyo Games.
Glinsk GAA Club was delighted to host the Northern Gaels Cul Camp. Almost 100 children from Glenamaddy, Glinsk and Williamstown enjoyed a fantastic week. Well done to all the coaches for their fantastic work and dedication.
Everyone associated with Glinsk GAA Club was saddened at the recent passing of former Galway All-Ireland winning manager John O’Mahony. His passing has evoked stirring and evocative memories from the halcyon years of 1998 and 2001 when Galway were crowned All-Ireland champions. As a manager he won a total of eight Connacht titles with Mayo, Leitrim and Galway. John also won All-Ireland U-21 titles with his native Mayo and Galway. His Alma Mater was St. Nathy’s College, Ballaghaderreen where he won his first Connacht medal as a player in 1968 on a team that featured Glinsk native Laurence Cunningham and Noel Brennan a brother of Tony ( Glinsk). He went on to win All-Ireland minor and U-21 medals with Mayo in 1971 and 1974 respectively. He attended many events in Glinsk over the years. He presented league medals to Glinsk ladies team in 1999 and he also did training sessions with various teams. Only last February he was special guest at the 1998 reunion social in the Glencastle Lounge. Glinsk was one of the first clubs in the county to nominate John for the position of Galway senior team manager in 1997. The club had been aware for some time that he was interested in the Galway job. Initially the plan was to nominate him in 1996 but due to bureaucratic reasons the nomination was kept in abeyance. However, in 1997 Glinsk went with the courage of its convictions and as they say the rest is history. The club would like to extend sympathy to John’s wife, Gerardine; daughters, Grainne, Niamh, Rhona, Deirdre and Cliodhna, brothers, Fr, Dan and Fr. Stephen, sons- in- law, grandchildren and extended family members.

There was huge disappointment in the parish at the result of the All-Ireland final. While the demand for tickets outstripped supply a huge contingent of supporters travelled from the locality to the game.
Hard luck to the Glinsk U-14 girls who lost the league final to Headford by a single point.
