Local Notes: Elphin sign in Scotland and music and singing sessions
A Welcome to Elphin sign in Scotland.
Fin MacDiarmada went to secondary school in Elphin and took photos of Elphin, Scotland in 2022. Sean and Julia Neary got in touch to say there was a town twinning of sorts 43 years ago when they both visited Elphin in Scotland and the community there visited Elphin in Ireland subsequently and presented them with a stoneware plate inscribed in Scottish Gaelic which transcribes as "greetings from Elphin Scotland to Elphin Ireland".
The Irish traditional music sessions are continuing on Tuesdays in the Tower Inn with the junior sessions starting at 7 p.m.. All Junior musicians are very to attend welcome provided that they are accompanied by a parent. The senior music sessions start at 8 p.m. and all musicians will be made very welcome, beginners are not only welcome but will be encouraged and supported by the other musicians in a friendly manner.
The next singing session in the Tower Inn will take place on Sunday, November 26th at 8 p.m., it is a night well worth attending whether as a singer or listener as all genre of singing is catered for.
Training for rounders continues every Saturday and Sunday at 4.30 p.m. in Orchard Park. All new members welcome.
Yoga with Joanne takes place at Elphin Day Centre on Mondays at 7 p.m. and 8.30 p.m.. Limited places so pre-booking essential on 086 3722165.
Condolences to the family and friends of the late Patsy McGrath. He was a great part of Elphin Day Centre and will be sadly missed. The annual Christmas dinner /party will be held in An Bothar Rua, on Sunday, December 10th at 2 p.m.. Music on the day by Billy. Also raffle lots of prizes This is a good opportunity for families to have a day out with their loved one. Let Catherine know if you or someone you know would like a fun festive day out and get into the Christmas spirit on 071 9635566 This year the centre is running a fundraising draw to help towards running costs of the centre. The draw for this will take place on the day and tickets will be on sale shortly. Please support this vital service in the community. Elphin Day Centre continues to provide meals on wheels. Elphin bingo takes place every Monday starting 8.30 p.m. in Elphin Community Centre.
