Elphin set dancers who achieved second place in the U-18 Mixed Half Set at the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Belfast.

ELPHIN 

ALL-IRELAND FLEADH SUCCESS 

Massive congratulations to all the dancers who represented Elphin CCE at Fleadh Cheoil All-Ireland in Belfast. All saw some amazing dancing. A huge congratulations to the teams who came away with some fantastic results, bringing two All-Ireland medals back to Elphin, 3rd place – 12–15 Mixed, 2nd place – U18 Mixed Half Set. A special mention to dancer Henry who became All-Ireland champion in the 12–15 Storytelling. What an incredible achievement. A huge thank you to each and every dancer, parent and supporter for the encouragement, dedication, craic and support throughout the weekend. As always, a very special thank you to Micheal Gunn for all the uncountable hours of dedication and effort that goes on behind the scenes. It is very much appreciated and doesn't go unnoticed. The costume department also deserve a mention. Thank you so much for the organisation, effort and attention to detail. No stone was left unturned so thank you for that, What a weekend of dancing, achievements and memories for Elphin set dancers. Well done to everyone who played a part, you can all be very proud.

Congratulations also to Celine Shannon — Senior Lilting. Elphin CCE PRO AnneMarie Brogan was presented with the Comhaltas Aisling Murphy Scholarship for Research at the National Folk Orchestra concert, and congratulations also Jacinta Conneely-Shannon, who was kept very busy hosting TG4’s live-stream coverage throughout the weekend before taking to the stage as MC for the prestigious All-Ireland Céilí Band Competition at the ICC Waterfront Hall.

LATE MOLLY MILTON

 The death occurred recently in Florida of Molly Milton. Molly worked for Dr. Hanley just outside Elphin and was well liked around Elphin. In later years she enjoyed the Catskill Mountains in Upstate New York and in Florida where she spent her last years. May she rest in peace.

ELPHIN AGRICULTURAL SHOW 

Elphin Agricultural Show will be held on August 29th. Entries are now open, enter via the website. Entries close on August 22nd.

DAY CENTRE 

Elphin Day Centre clients recently had a beautiful day out on Moon River with lunch in Cryan’s Hotel. Thank you to everyone who came along and enjoyed the friendship, music and scenery and great food. If anyone wishes to avail of the day centre services ring 0719635566 or 0876803675.

WINDMILL 

Revised opening and closing times for Elphin Windmill are as follows: Monday-Sunday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. for August and September. Please note that these times may change. Ring 089 6524966 for further information. Group tours outside these times can be accommodated.

TOWER BAR SESSIONS 

The Tuesday traditional music sessions in the Tower Inn will be preceded by a junior music session starting at 7.30 p.m.. All junior musicians will be made very welcome provided they are accompanied by a parent.

TOWER SINGERS' SESSION 

The next singers’ night in the Tower Inn will be on August 30th. All singers are welcome to attend as all genre of singing is catered for and for non-singers the night always provides a very good night’s enjoyable entertainment so come along and bring a friend.

ELPHIN GAA 

Well done to the minor ladies who recorded their second win of the championship over St Ciaran’s recently in Orchard Park after defeating Shannon Gaels in Croghan. It is great to see so many younger players stepping up to this level. Round 5 is a home game scheduled for August 25th against St Mary’s Tulsk.

TIDY TOWNS 

Tidy Towns volunteers meet at the Day Centre polytunnel every Saturday at 10.30 a.m. All welcome. Thanks also to everyone who sponsors the work of the group. The group would love to have some new volunteers. If you are new to Elphin it is a great way to meet people. Volunteers can do as much or as little as they like.

KILTRUSTAN SPORTS CLUB 

Clothing collection will take place the first Saturday of every month, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kiltrustan Sports Club.

BINGO 

 Bingo every Monday starts at 8 p.m. in Elphin Community Centre. Thank you for your continued support.

AA MEETINGS 

AA meetings are held on Mondays at 8 p.m. in Elphin Community Centre.

SOS ELPHIN 

This service is available to everyone in the local parishes, villages and towns. It is a free, confidential and anonymous service. Contact the Health Centre, Chapel Street, Elphin for full details.

CROGHAN/DRUMLION/CORTOBER 

ACTIVE AGE FITNESS CLASSES 

Active Age fitness classes take place in Croghan Community Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11.30 a.m.. For bookings please call/text Siofra at 086-1929282. (Croghan Café open Thursday for coffee and chat).

FUNDRAISING SOCIAL IN FOUR PROVINCES 

A fundraising social night will take place in the Four Provinces, Rathallen on Friday, August 21st. Music by John Molloy. All funds raised go to the Vincentian Lay Missionaries and Daughters of Charity, for projects in Masanga, Tanzania. Admission €10. For further information contact Jane Scott at 087-2972871.

CAVETOWN RESIDENTS CE SCHEME 

Cavetown Residents CE Scheme has vacancies for environmental workers in several locations under the Croghan based scheme, including an administrative assistant preferably with agricultural experience. SHANNON GAELS 50/50 DRAW 

Recent winner of the Shannon Gaels GAA Club's 50/50 draw was Garry Sammon who won €1001. All support for the draw is much appreciated. Tickets may be purchased on ClubSpot or at local businesses.

FRESH ORGANIC VEGETABLES 

Croghan Organic Garden pop-up shop opens every Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. beside the Old Creamery Café. Fresh produce grown locally at the organic community gardens.

BINGO IN PATRICIAN HALL 

Bingo takes place in the Patrician Hall, Cortober on Sundays at 8 p.m.. Big cash prizes to be won. All welcome.
