Earlier this year film maker Kathy Raftery made a documentary with the Ballinlough-Granlahan Active Retirement Association called Stories in the Making, about the women in the group and their knitting and crochet work. The film will be screened in Ballinlough for Culture Night on this Friday, September 18th. The film will be screened at the CDC Centre, with screenings at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.. Some of the women’s knitting and crochet work will be on display on the night.
A fundraising night with the Kilgefin/Scramogue Choir in aid of Hannah Victory and the Zoe Cryan Trust, hosted By Richard Kennedy, will be held in St Coman's Church of Ireland, Henry Street, Roscommon Town at 7.30 p.m. sharp on September 25th. Kilmurry Hall will host a Harvest Party for senior citizens on Sunday, September 27th as part of Roscommon County Council’s Social Inclusion Week. The party will commence with Mass at 4.30 p.m., a hot meal will be served, followed by music with Jimmy Kearney and Terry McGowan. Cootehall, Crossna & Drumboylan Defibrillator Group has launched a 2026 fundraising appeal. Until the first week of October members of the committee will be calling to every house in the parish of Ardcarne with donation envelopes. The group is asking for your support to help raise enough money to purchase six new, state-of-the-art defibrillators to replace the existing units, which are now reaching the end of their operational lifespan. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference. Your support will help ensure that the community continues to be a safe place to live, work and visit. Please support the fundraising appeal and help us continue to provide this vital, potentially life-saving service within the community.

The death took place recently of Mrs Maisie Cusack of Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan. Sympathy is extended to her daughter, Jacqueline McCormack and her son-in-law, Pearse, Corrigeen Mor in the parish of St. John’s, Lecarrow. Maisie passed away on August 30th in the care of the staff of Cavan General Hospital. Predeceased by her husband John, parents Patrick and Marian, brothers, Gene and Michael, sisters, Babs, Peggy and Susan. She will be forever missed by her loving son, Eugene, daughter Jacqueline, son-in-law, Pearse, daughter-in-law, Mary and her sister Monica, brothers ,Frank and Brian, grandchildren John, PJ, Dearbhla and Cillian, her extended family and her many friends and neighbours. Her funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, Ballyjamesduff followed by burial in The Old Cemetery on the Oldcastle Road.
The Parish Pastoral Council and the parishioners of Tulsk, Killina & Kilmurry extend a heartful welcome is to the new parish priest of Tulsk, Fr. Ronnie Kawooya of the Holy Cross Fathers. As Fr Ronnie celebrated his first mass in the community last weekend, the entire community wish him all God's blessings. May he be guided and enlightened on his journey of faith & spiritual leadership in the parish.
Tulsk’s intermediate team will play Creggs in their intermediate football championship quarter-final on Sunday in Enfield at 3 p.m.. The very best of luck is extended to manager Liam McNeill and the team as the ‘business end’ of the competition commences. Meanwhile the club's Junior B team endured a 4-15 to 4-07 loss to Shannon Gaels in round four of the junior B championship on Saturday evening. The team currently have six points on the board with four rounds played. Tulsk will be idle for round five, which will be played on the weekend of September25th/26th. Both the club’s junior and intermediate teams are sponsored by PB Networks.

PLAYERS OF THE FUTURE
The entire community of Tulsk wish to extend their very best wishes to the club’s U-14 footballers who face a Michael Glaveys/Éire Óg combination in their U-14 county final this Thursday, September 17th at 6.30 p.m. in Castlerea. To date, the team have defeated St. Ciaran’s, Castlerea St. Kevin’s, Elphin/Ballinameen and Clann nan Gael ‘B’ in their semi-final. The side also defeated their final opponents in the earlier group stages and will be hoping to repeat the feat this Thursday. It’s hoped as many members of the community can reach out, attend and support the team in their endeavours. The team, which is kindly sponsored by the McGarry Group lined out as follows during their aforementioned semi-final victory over Clann nan Gael ‘B’ - Daniel Neary, Donal Mulrennan, James Feely, Donnacha Clarke, Finan Miley, Alex McGarry, Micheal Og Carthy, Evan Cribbin, Dylan Cryan (0-4), Matthew Fallon, Liam Dixion (2-3), Ethan Coyne , Jake Noone, Conor Bailey (1-0), James Carthy (1-0), Francis Murray, Gavin Hanly, Sonny Drury, Daniel Fortune Micheal Nally, Diarmuid Moore, Cormack Carty and Darragh O Connor. Every success is extended to the entire squad, their coaches and mentors ahead of Thursday’s big contest. Meanwhile well done to the club’s Hilltop Dairies sponsored U-10 boys who were in action last week against an Oran/St Croan’s selection in Enfield. Each of the team were superb and put on a great show for the travelling supporters, having had earlier matches against Boyle, Castlerea St Kevin’s, Kilglass Gaels, Strokestown and Shannon Gaels. The team were also joined by Senior club and former Roscommon player Tadhg O’Rourke for a recent training session.
A reminder to local residents that Margaret Hynes and her colleagues in Tulsk ICA will host the annual coffee evening for Mayo-Roscommon Hospice on Friday, September 25th at 8 p.m. in Tulsk Macra Hall. Every cup counts so come along and enjoy some great company while supporting a cause close to so many hearts.
Irish language classes for adults will resume again this autumn in Cruachan Ai (F45HH51) Tulsk. The classes will begin on Wednesday, October 7th from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. This course is suitable for all levels with an emphasis on conversational Irish. Beginners are welcome. This year’s Culture Night takes place this Friday, September 18th with a series of events taking place across the county. As part of the celebrations, musician and poet Declan Flanagan will perform in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre from 8.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.. Declan will perform a night of poetry, singing and original music in Irish and in English with light refreshments served following the performance. This is a free event and are warmly invited to attend which should be a special occasion.
Roscommon Older People’s Council invite members of the community to Echoes of Éireann, a special Culture Night 2026 event celebrating the rich heritage of traditional Irish music and song. This special performance takes place on Friday, September 18th from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. in Roscommon Arts Centre Admission free, though early booking is advisable.
Sr Mary Gallagher of the Missionary sisters of the Holy Rosary will speak at all local Masses this weekend Saturday September 19th and Sunday, September 20th to promote Mission Awareness.
