LATE MRS SUSAN KIERNAN

Mrs Susan Downs Kiernan, age 67, of Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts, USA, passed away on Friday, May 24th last surrounded by her family following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Mr Brendan Kiernan (formerly of Vesnoy, Strokestown). Born in Fitchburg on September 13th, 1956, Susan was the daughter of the late William and Beulah (Downs) Costello and stepdaughter of the late Gerry Veautour. Susan grew up in Fitchburg and was a graduate of Fitchburg High School and Monty Tech Dental Assistant Programme. She worked as a dental assistant in Plymouth, first for the office of Dr. Stephen Horn for 10 years and then for the office of Dr. Richard Karr for over 30 years. Susan was vibrant and fun-loving, with a terrific sense of humour that she often used to put patients at ease while in the dental chair. Susan and Brendan spent their time in Sagamore Beach and at their second home in Strokestown where she loved to relax and visit with family. She was the ultimate altruist, always putting others before herself, always kind and caring to her family and friends. Susan was generous with her loved ones to a fault, and among family, her gift giving was an art. She loved music, dancing, painting, and was extremely crafty. She also loved to shop - her shoe and handbag collection is one for the record books. News of her passing was heard of with deep regret among her relatives, neighbours and friends. The funeral took place in Plymouth. She is survived by her husband, son, Gabriel; daughter-in-law, Audrey (Plymouth); sister, Mrs Linda Fournier and her husband, Brian (Leominster); niece, Mrs Jenna Elliot (Lancaster); nephew, Jonathan Fournier (Springwater, New York); sisters-in-law, Mrs Carmel Gillooly (Mount Cashel, Roscommon) and Mrs Barbara Coll (Strokestown) and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
