Do you want to be in with a chance to get a free BER assessment on your home? The Strokestown Town Team, as a sustainable energy community, in conjunction with the SEAI & Energy Co-operatives Ireland, is running a survey. Fill it out to be in with a chance of being one of the up to 10 homes selected by the Energy Co-op to be assessed as part of the Strokestown Energy Master Plan: https://energyco-ops.ie/strokestown-sec-emp/. The Energy Co-op will pick the homes independent of the Strokestown Town Team.
The next meeting of Strokestown Town Team will be held in the community centre, upstairs, on Thursday, March 5th at 8 p.m.. All are welcome to attend.
Strokestown Park & The National Famine Museum is taking part in Seachtain na Gaeilge with a variety of events taking place on March 8th. On March 8th, visitors can enjoy complimentary admission to the National Famine Museum from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.. All interpretation within the National Famine Museum is presented bilingually, in both Irish and English, and audio guides are available in both languages. A guided tour of Strokestown Park House as Gaeilge will also take place on March 8th at 1 p.m.. Following the tour, relax in the Woodland Café for Comhrá, Caifé agus Ceol from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for an afternoon of traditional Irish music and dance with acclaimed All - Ireland winning musicians and dancers Úna Ní Fhlatharta, Róisín Ní Fhlatharta, Ciara Fitzharris, and Elaine Clarke. Everyone is welcome.
World Day of Prayer will be celebrated on Friday, March 6th in St Mary's Church, Lanesborough at 7.30 p.m. with the theme - "I will give you rest: Come". All are welcome.

There will be a meeting of Strokestown Parish Pastoral Council on this Wednesday, March 4th at 7 p.m. in the presbytery.
Irish language classes for adults continue in the Cruachan Ai Centre, Tulsk every Wednesday from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m., This course is suitable for all levels with an emphasis on conversational Irish. Beginners welcome. For further information contact Maire at (086) 6095402.
At the Annual General Meeting of the County Roscommon Historical and Archaeological Society held recently at the Cruachan Ai Centre, Tulsk, the following officers were elected for the coming year: President, Shane Lynskey, Strokestown; Vice-President, Ailish Feeley, Roscommon; Hon. Secretary, Albert Siggins, Castlecoote; Hon. Treasurer, Edmund Hester, Castlerea; PRO, Darragh Kelly, Tulsk; Committee, Mary O'Connell, Castlerea (immediate past president), James P. Ganly, Derrane, and James Hoban, Roscommon (joint journal editors), Jacqueline Towey, Roscommon, Dr Kieran O'Conor, Keadue, Marian Harlow, Roscommon, and Carmel Kelly, Dromod. The next monthly Lecture takes place on Tuesday, March 10th at 8.30 p.m., with Mr Alan Healy, archaeologist, on the topic off "Archaeology and Farming: Where Worlds Meet".
The people of Strokestown and district were deeply saddened on hearing of the death of Mrs Mary Sullivan (nee Caslin) of The Paddocks, Naas,County Kildare, which took place recently at St. Brigid's Hospice, The Curragh, following a period of ill-health. A native of Strokestown, she was daughter of the late Mr Martin Caslin and of the late Mrs Kathleen Caslin (nee Nelson), The Western Bar, Bridge Street, and a member of a family prominent in the commercial, cultural and social life of the town for decades. Educated at the Convent of Mercy Primary School and Scoil Mhuire, Strokestown, she qualified as a Home Economics teacher at St. Angela's College, Sligo. She subsequently taught at Ard Scoil Rath Iomghain, Rathangan, County Kildare, for many years and where she remained until her retirement. She was predeceased by her parents-in-law, Martin and Nora Sullivan. The Requiem Mass was celebrated at the Church of Our Lady and St. David, Nass, and the interment followed in St. Corban's Cemetery, Naas. She is survived by her husband, Martin; son, Paul; grandchildren, Roise and Nainsi; daughter-in-law, Ailsa; sister, Mrs Helen Butler (Farnbeg); brothers, Marty (Dublin) and Peter (French Court); brothers-in-law, Christy, Colman, John (R.I.P.) and Mick; sisters-in-law, Mary and Phil; nieces, nephews, extended family and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
The death took place recently at Nazareth House, San Diego, California, USA of Fr. Gerard J. McNulty. A native of Battery Road, Longford, he was son of the late Mr Paddy McNulty and of the late Mrs Lily McNulty (nee Ryan) (formerly of Bridge Street, Strokestown). He attended All Hallows College, Dublin, and was ordained for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, California, in 1967. He was a major in the US Air Force Reserve and a much-loved chaplain in the Department of Veterans' Affairs. He was predeceased by his brother, Dr Cyril. His remains were repatriated to Ireland. The Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Mel's Cathedral, Longford, and the interment followed in Ballymacormack Cemetery, Longford. He is survived by his brothers, Michael, Aidan and David; sisters-in-law, Mary, Peggy, Theresa and Martina; nieces, nephews and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.
