Western Gaels GAA Club extends a huge thank you to all who helped make the recent event in St. Nathy’s Hall, Ballaghaderreen a huge success. Thanks especially to Fr. Martin Henry (St. Nathy’s College), Claire Queenan, Joan Hartington, Declan Sampey, Sean Creighton, David Regan Electrical, Casserly Construction, John Flanagan Carpentry, Drury Oils, Cooneys (Tibohine), Boland’s Bar, Barna Waste, Ros Plant Hire, Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice, Micheal Cattigan CBE, The Print Depot, Geraldine Daly, Oliver Kelleher, Tommy Sharkey, Haulie Beirne, James Kilcoyne, Paul Watchorn (Support Act), Kevin Shelley and the security team, Civil Defence, Mitchell's, Imelda Towey, Durkins, and Michael & Olivia Frain. Well done also to the club volunteers who assisted in a variety of roles on the night.
On the recent occasion of Josie Cahill’s 90th birthday, she would like to sincerely thank everyone for their kind wishes, cards and presents. Mass will be offered for your intentions.
Ballinagare Development Group is running a car wash at Ballinagare Church on this Saturday, May 4th from 12 noon to 4 p.m., €10 per car. Your support would be appreciated.
The peaceful death occurred, at her residence, of Mrs Sheila Gallagher, Brownshill, Carlow and formerly of Lanesboro and Castlerea on Friday, April 26th last. Pre-deceased by her husband Noel, she was sister of Fr. Micheál Kelly (Kiltegan and formerly Frenchpark parish). Sheila is also survived by her loving family, children, Niamh, Micheál, Ronan, Padraic and Fred; grandchildren, siblings Paddy, Gretta, Fred, Phil and Greg, extended family, relatives, neighbours and many friends. Her remains were removed from her home to The Church of The Holy Family, Askea on Sunday evening last. Following Requiem Mass on Monday, April 29th, the funeral proceeded to St Mary's Cemetery, Carlow.
The death took place peacefully of Mr John Mullooly, Lisserlough, Killaraght on Saturday, April 27th last at Roscommon Hospice. Pre-deceased by his wife, Ann, and his brother Simon in 2021, John is sadly missed and remembered with love by his daughter, Jacinta; son, John; sister, Attracta (Jones); grandchildren, Jack and Declan; son-in-law, Eugene; brother-in-law, Malcom; nephews, extended family, neighbours and many friends. John will repose in Mahon’s Funeral Home, Boyle on Tuesday (today) from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.. Removal to St. Attracta’s Church, Killaraght on Wednesday, May 1st for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon followed by burial afterwards in Killaraght New Cemetery.
Pray for the repose of the souls of Ms Teresa Cassidy, England (daughter of the late Tom & Breda Cassidy, Frenchpark); Mr Tom McDonnell, Coollena, Edmondstown; Leighton James, Swansea, Wales and Mr Des Coleman, Cloonaholly, Lisacul. May they rest in peace.
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be held on this Wednesday (1st) at 11 a.m. in Ballinagare Church. Masses will be held in Tibohine at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday (30th), in Frenchpark at 7 p.m. on Thursday (2nd), in Ballinagare at 7 p.m. on Friday (3rd), in Tibohine at 7 p.m. and Ballinagare at 8.30 p.m. on Saturday (4th) and in Frenchpark at 10 a.m., Fairymount at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday (5th). Visits to the sick and housebound will take place in Fairymount/Tibohine on Thursday (2nd) and in Ballinagare/Frenchpark on Friday, May 3rd at the usual times.

The Roscommon branch of MS Ireland wish to express sincere thanks to the organisers and collectors of the church gate collection at Frenchpark Church on Easter Sunday last. The sum of €286.94 has been passed on to the Roscommon Branch of MS Ireland. Special thanks to the parishioners for their generous support of the annual collection.
Western Gaels held its weekly lottery draw on Saturday, April 27th last. There was no winner of the jackpot. The numbers drawn were 13, 20, 25 and 30. Cash prize winners (€20 each) were Ursula Cooney, C. Crean, Muriel Hanly JadVarb and Ethan/Sophie Neary. The next draw (jackpot €3,900) will take place at the clubhouse in Frenchpark on Saturday, May 6th next. Tickets are available on-line through the Clubforce app or from local outlets.

The Gerry Galvin Memorial Pool Tournament drew to a close at the weekend with John Larkin capturing his third title in this prestigious competition after previous wins in 2018 and again in 2022. John defeated his opponent Conal Hanly by eight games to two. Once again, the competition produced plenty of excitement and entertainment. After the final, the cup, named in honour of a well-known local pool player, was presented by Des Galvin, brother of the late Gerry Galvin. The final and indeed the tournament was hosted by Dec’s Bar in Castleplunkett. The organisers would like to thank everyone for their support of what has become a social and sporting highlight in the local calendar.

A night of music and song commemorating French’s legacy will take place in Strokestown Famine Museum on Wednesday, May 1st, hosted by the Leitrim Percy French Society.
Tulsk ICA is running a bus to Bloom in Dublin on Saturday, June 1st. Departs Tulsk at 7 a.m. and returns at approximately 8 p.m.. Cost is €50 per head which includes bus and entry to Bloom. Meal stop on way up and return not included in fee. Contact Felicia on 086 0831264.
The Tulsk annual Parish Sports Day takes place on the May Bank Holiday Monday, May 6th at Tulsk GAA Pitch from 2 p.m.. There will be a fine line up of races that will get the heart pumping and the spirits soaring. All today, there will be something for everyone, from the young to the ‘young at heart’. Meanwhile, well done to the organisers of the Tag Rugby sessions which started at the weekend with a great turnout and great enthusiasm. Thanks are extended to Kenneth Loughrey for taking the children and to Clooneyquinn NS for the use of the amazing astro turf.
The death has occurred of Mrs Geraldine (Mary) Macken (née Dufficy), late of Veldonstown, Navan, County Meath and formerly of Tulsk. The deceased passed away surrounded by her loving family, at St. Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown. Predeceased by her husband Jimmy, the deceased is survived by her sons, Conor, Ciarán and Joey; daughters, Yvonne and Maria; sons-in-law, Mark and John; daughters-in-law, Anne-Marie and Joanna; grandchildren, Aoibhinn, Darragh, Niamh, Roisín, James, Maebh, Liam, Aisling and Harry; brothers, Joe, Jarlath, Paul, Ray and Declan; sisters, Carmel, Marie and Olive; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews relatives and friends. The remains of the deceased reposed at Ratoath Chapel of Rest before being removed to The Church of The Assumption Kentstown, for Funeral Mass with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
A total of three Roscommon GAA Gaeltacht Scholarships, valued at €350 each are available this year. One of those is confined to entrants of Scor na nÓg this year. All entrants must be a member of a GAA club in County Roscommon and a secondary school student in the school year 2023/24.
