Families spending over €2,100 more per year on groceries
Research has shown that families are spending over €2,100 more per year on groceries compared to 2022.
Irish households say their weekly grocery bill has jumped by an average of €41 since 2022, with 72 per cent spending more on food overall, according to new research from HelloFresh.
79 per cent of people feel more anxious about household costs than they did three years ago.
The bill they were most stressed about was energy costs at 31 per cent, followed by groceries at 28 per cent, followed by savings depletion at 20 per cent.
It comes as Davy Research says a slowdown in economic growth is evident.
"Albeit from a strong base, signs of weaker economic activity are now increasingly evident as autumn 2025 continues. VAT receipts have been softer for much of 2025; we had previously attributed this to a softer summer season for domestic tourism but where an increase in foreign travel for Irish households had taken place.
"However, the latest card spending and ATM withdrawals data released this week by the Central Bank of Ireland suggest the weak pattern in VAT receipts is now also beginning to show for card spending."
