Four Roads celebrate minor hurling triumph

The Four Roads minor hurlers that won their league title last weekend.
CONGRATULATIONS: The club would like to congratulate Aideen and Tara O’Brien and Ella Lynch who were members of the Convent of Mercy senior camogie team that defeated Laurel Hill from Limerick in their All-Ireland Colleges’ camogie semi-final on the all-weather pitch at the University of Limerick on Friday morning. The team were captained by Aideen O’Brien.
BOWLING NIGHT/MEDAL PRESENTATION: The club is hosting a bowling night for U-12, U-14 and U-16 players on this Friday, February, 2nd, in Ros Bowl, Roscommon Town between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.. The U-14 and U-16 teams will be presented with their county championship medals. The U-12 players will be presented with a Certificate of Participation.
U-14 DEVELOPMENT SQUAD: Training for the Roscommon U-14 development squad commences this weekend. Players who have already completed their application online will be informed by text about the time and venue for training.
OPERATION TRANSFORMATION: RTÉ's Operation Transformation is coming to the club on this Tuesday, January 30th. The club needs as many people as possible to attend so if you can, please come along and join. The tractors and trucks will be arriving from 5 p.m. and the walk will take place at 6 p.m.. The club would like to thank everyone who came to the pitch on Saturday to help get it ready.
BONUS BALL DRAW: The bonus ball draw took place on Saturday night. The winning number was 30. Congratulations to the two winners: Paul Mulvey and Declan Dwyer. The draw continues this Saturday night. Please contact any member of the executive to enter.
LOTTO: There was no winner of the €7,200 lotto jackpot in the recent draw. The jackpot now stands at €7,300 for next Sunday evening’s draw at 9 p.m..
WELL DONE LUKE: The National Football League returned last weekend where, unfortunately, Roscommon lost out to Tyrone in Omagh. However a big congratulations to Luke Glennon on making his senior league debut.
FUNDRAISER: After a successful car draw together, Boyle GAA Club is delighted to work once again with Boyle Celtic on an upcoming White Collar Boxing event on May 4th. It promises to be a really entertaining night. More updates to come on the club’s social media channels over the next few weeks.
LOTTO: There was no winner of the lotto jackpot. Lucky dip winners were Cliodhna Bruen, Aisling Fannon, Seamus Collins, Thomas Callaghan, and Tom Brennan. The jackpot stands at €8,200 for the next draw in Doherty’s Bar.
DINNER DANCE: Castlerea St. Kevin’s is holding its dinner dance on Saturday, February 10th. Doors open at 6.30 p.m. and seating at 7 p.m. in The Hub, Castlerea. MC on the night will be Virgin Media News and Sports Reporter, Joe Caulfield. White Cakes will be keeping everyone on their toes with the music. Tickets cost €50 and can be purchased from any of the dinner dance committee members — Maura Conroy, Christina Mannion, David Healy, Jim Flanagan, Mike Brennan, Barry O’Regan, Ollie Connaughton and Tom Finneran. The intermediate panel of players will be receiving their Roscommon and Connacht medals. It promises to be a great night’s entertainment. Tickets are selling fast.
OTHER NEWS: Well done to Adam McDermott who came on against Tyrone last Sunday. Best of luck against Galway this Sunday in the Hyde. Well done also to Treasurer David Healy who was honoured at last Friday night’s Volunteer awards in Kilronan Castle. The club congratulates Lisa O’Rourke who was part of the Roscommon intermediate ladies’ team that beat Louth on Sunday last.
50/50 DRAW: Kevin Casey, Culfadda, won the weekly 50/50 jackpot of €568. The draw takes place every Monday evening. There will be one guaranteed lucky jackpot winner each week. HEALTHY CLUB: For the healthy club walk this Tuesday evening, the club will be joining Ballinameen GAA Club as the RTÉ Operation Transformation camera crew will be filming in Ballinameen GAA grounds. The walk is being filmed between 6 p.m. and 7.30 p.m..
NEW SEASON: The club season gets underway next weekend when the senior ladies’ team face Clann na nGael in their opening league game in Kilbride at 11 a.m.. The club is delighted to announce that Con Moynihan will take charge of the senior ladies’ team this year. The management team is yet to be finalised but will include Michael Tully and David O’Rourke alongside Sandra Shanagher as Female Liaison Officer.
ROSCOMMON TEAMS: Well done to Aisling Hanly, Aisling Shanagher and Roscommon intermediate ladies’ team on winning their second game in a row in the National League following a good win over Louth.
Congratulations to Aisling Shanagher and Katelyn Shally on being selected for the county minor panel, Laura McSharry and Ivannah Looby on being selected for the county U-16 team, which is being managed by Kilbride’s Albert Looby and, finally, to Sadhbh Shally who has been selected for the county U-14 team . The club wishes the players all the best for the upcoming season.

PADDY JOE HUSSEY, RIP: The club was saddened by the recent passing of Paddy Joe Hussey. Paddy Joe was a great player and supporter of Michael Glaveys during his life, attending club matches with his beloved dog Bruce. He played at left half-forward on the team that won the club’s first county intermediate title in 1970. He had a brilliant left foot and was top scorer on the day. Indeed he was awarded the Man of the Match award for his performance. He, like many of this generation, emigrated to England but returned on many occasions to play for his club. He eventually returned and settled in Mountain. For many years, the club trained in the field behind his house. Paddy Joe loved Michael Glaveys and was also a great supporter of Roscommon, attending many league and championship matches down the years. He will be sadly missed by everyone. The club extends its sympathy to Phil, Brian, David and all the Hussey family. May he Rest In Peace.
STEPS CHALLENGE: The club is doing so well on the Irish Life Health Steps Challenge as it continues to lead Connacht. The club is going to have a little fun, set itself a new target and see can Oran reach 25,000 kilometres by Monday, February 12th. Oran Healthy Clubs is very happy to announce that they will be joined by Niall Tully from Tully's totalhealth Pharmacy, Castlerea, on Tuesday, January 30th, at Ireland Lights Up, where he will perform diabetes and hemoglobin tests. These tests will be taken between 6.30 p.m. and 8 p.m.. Tests are free of charge as it is a healthy club initiative. No booking required, but spaces will be limited on the evening. Please support and spread the word to everyone in the community.

NEW SEASON: The competitive season for the adult ladies’ team gets underway with a home game against St. Croan’s on Sunday morning. The lads will be out the following week in the Northern Cup competition.
SOCIAL NIGHT: The club social takes place on Saturday, March 2nd. A number of individual presentations will be made, along with the presentation of medals to the ladies’ teams from 2023.
REGISTRATION: All players should note that registration is now due. A registration evening will take place on this Friday, February 2nd, between 7.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.. Payments can be made by card or cash. Registration can also be completed via the St Barry's portal on the Clubforce App. George Bannon/Roscommon Sports will be there on the night with a selection of club merchandise to try on.

500 CLUB DRAW: The 500 Club Draw tickets are up for renewal. All proceeds go towards developing the GAA grounds. Tickets can be purchased via the link on the club’s social media channels. This first draw of the year will take place on Sunday, February 4th, in Kenny’s Lounge, Ballintubber.
COUNTY PLAYERS: Well done to Ella Thompson and the Roscommon intermediate ladies’ football team who beat Louth on Sunday last. Their next game is away to Clare on February 11th. Well done to Aisling Kennedy, Ava Smyth, Èabhanna Sheridan and Ailish Burke who are currently attending U-14 county trials.
POST PRIMARY SCHOOLS: Well done to Eoin Collins, Conor Kennedy, Eoin Morgan, Alan Conroy and the Glenamaddy CS U-19 soccer team who are through to All-Ireland B final. Well done to Ashton Glancy and the Roscommon Community College senior boys who are through to the Connacht Senior D final where they will play St. Cuan’s of Castleblakeney in a couple weeks. They defeated Jesus and Mary, Enniscrone, on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-7 in their semi-final.
MORE COACHES WANTED: 2023 was a fantastic year for the club, built on the terrific volunteer effort of so many members (players, coaches, officers and committee members) alongside the fabulous support of the wider community.
Looking forward to 2024, the club wishes to expand its volunteer base, so it is calling on new volunteers to consider joining its pool of qualified nursery and academy coaches. Some demonstration sessions and coaching courses are coming up over the next few weeks, which will be the perfect opportunity to see what's involved and to get ready for the new season.
