A GAA club in Co Laois has made €15,000 after collecting 70,000 empty cans and bottles at Electric Picnic last weekend.

Killeshin GAA Club partnered with the music festival to raise money through the Deposit Return Scheme.

Volunteers from the south Laois club encouraged festival goers to off-load their drinks containers on their way from the campsites to the main arena.

Congratulating the club on social media, Re-turn said the initiative "shows the power of community and sustainability at Electric Picnic".

Taking to Facebook, Killeshin GAA Club said: "Thank you Electric Picnic and Re-turn for having us at this years event. It was a fantastic experience for the club with 70k cans collected.

"Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out over the past three days, you were amazing. See you next year."
