Local Notes: Annual 5km fun run, St.Stephen's day treasure hunt, Table quiz

ECUMENICAL CAROL SERVICE 

The annual Ecumenical Carol Service will be held in St. Joseph’s Church, Boyle on Thursday, December 18th at 8 p.m. A collection in aid of Mayo/Roscommon Hospice will take place on the night.

LOURDES FUNDRAISER – BOYLE DEANERY

 The Boyle Lourdes deanery is seeking volunteers for a bag packing fundraiser on December 22nd, 23rd and 24th at SuperValu, Boyle. The generosity of your time and assistance would greatly help assisted pilgrims from the area to travel to Lourdes in 2026. Please telephone/text Mary Clifford on 086 8164541.

ANNUAL 5KM FUN WALK/RUN 

The annual 5km fun walk/run in aid of Rapid Prompting Method (RPM) facilitators will be held on December 27th at 2 p.m. in Lough Key. This is the 12th year of the event. Registration is from 1.30pm. All money collected goes to pay for individual sessions with an Rapid Prompting Method facilitator. RPM is an academic method for individuals with autism with limited or no speech.

ST STEPHEN’S DAY TREASURE HUNT 

The traditional treasure hunt in aid of Mayo Roscommon Hospice takes place from 2.30 pm. on St Stephen’s Day at Lough Key Forest & Activity Park. Make your donation and pick up your clues outside the visitor centre. Gather in Dodd’s Bar afterwards to hand in sheets and debate the answers.

GAA TABLE QUIZ

 Boyle GAA’s Christmas Table Quiz takes place this year in St Joseph’s Hall on Sunday, December 28th at 7.30 p.m.. Entry €10 per person, students half price. Test your general knowledge and enjoy a great social occasion.

GOLF

 This year’s ladies and gents Christmas Bonanza competition can be played any day until December 21st. It will be played as a 9 Hole Stableford, with re-entries allowed. There will be a “2’s club” with a minimum pot of €50, a Birdie Tree with a minimum pot of €30. There will also be prizes for “Nearest the Pin” (Ladies & Gents) on the 4th hole and “Longest Drive” (Ladies & Gents)on the 8th hole. There will a presentation of prizes at 6 p.m. on December 21st with Christmas party for all members afterwards.

LATE MR JOHN CRYAN 

The death occurred unexpectedly, and peacefully at his home on December 7th of Mr John Cryan, Carrick Road, Boyle. John will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Claire; his children, Tara and her partner Rob, Clodagh and her husband Séan, John and his wife Megan and Peter and his wife Natalie and his beloved grandchildren, Caleb, Rowan, Charlotte, Johnny, Ciarán, Rosie, Keanu and Ember, sisters, Eleanor and brother-in-law David, and Mary and brother-in-law, David, cousins, relatives, neighbours and his many friends. Following Funeral Mass in St Joseph’s Church, Boyle on Wednesday last John was laid to rest in Assylinn Cemetery, Boyle.
