Local Fianna Fáil TD, Dr Martin Daly, has given his backing to former Dublin football manager Jim Gavin in the race to secure the party’s presidential nomination.

Today's announcement is a significant promotion for the first time TD.

Local TD Dr Martin Daly was not named as one of the new ministers of state announced after a Cabinet meeting this afternoon.  Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan, who has previously served as a junior minister, was also not among the new appointments.
