The case against a 58-year-old man prosecuted for driving through a level crossing on the Roscommon to Castlerea Road will appear again later this year.

Kevin McCrudden, 2 St Mary’s Road, Buncrana, County Donegal, appeared before Judge James Faughnan at Castlerea District Court recently, charged with dangerous driving, damage to property, failure to remain at the scene and failing to report the occurrence.

The incident happened at Bellacagher, Ballintubber, Castlerea on December 2nd, 2023.

His solicitor Alan Gannon said that his client’s insurance company had repeatedly contacted Irish Rail, saying his client had emailed eight times about paying for the damage caused, which the court was told was in the region of €13,000.

Judge Faughnan said that the court’s poor box was always available.

“If Irish Rail don’t want it, we’ll do it that way,” the judge commented.

The matter was adjourned until October to allow for clarification and progress.
