€500,000 for Dromod Roosky greyway

The project will see the construction of a 1.95km long greyway along the L1601, linking the villages of Dromod and Roosky.

Funding of €500,000 has been granted to Leitrim County Council to support the construction of a greyway between Dromod and Roosky.

Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD has announced a total of €16.5 million to deliver 63 projects nationwide through the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).

The successful Leitrim project will see the construction of a 1.95km long greyway along the L1601, linking the villages of Dromod and Roosky. This project will support recreational walking, through the provision of a safe walkway, suitable for all ages, allowing for safe walking route between the two villages.

Announcing the successful projects today, Minister Calleary said: “I am delighted to make this significant funding announcement today for outdoor recreational facilities. This investment will further enhance these spaces which not only act as recreational and social spaces for our communities but also add greatly to our tourism sector.

Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council, Councillor Paddy Farrell welcomed the ORIS funding approved for County Leitrim commenting “This funding will ensure safe and secure walking for locals and visitors, as well as an important link between the villages of Dromod and Roosky”.

Mr. Joseph Gilhooly Chief Executive continued “I welcome this investment by Minister Calleary under the ORIS programme. This funding will help to enhance and improve our walking facilities and will add to the range of walks available in the locality”.
