Appeal lodged against rejection of glamping units
Planning rejected for three one-bedroom self-catering glamping units near Lecarrow
A proposal rejected by Roscommon County Council for three one-bedroom self-catering glamping units near Lecarrow has been appealed to An Comisiúín Pleanála. Other plans for the tourist accommodation included a change of use of a stone building to a storage for eight bikes and a passenger golf cart.
The planning appeal was lodged by Martina Conway on July 27th.
Roscommon County Council rejected the initial plans for a number of reasons, including concerns about the suitability of the location, traffic impacts and safe disposal of wastewater.
Several local residents also lodged submissions objecting to the application, highlighting reasons such as noise and flood risks.
Included in the appeal made to An Comisiún Pleanala are three Natura Impact Statements (NIS), the most recent of which was published in early May by Whitehill Environmental.
The NIS addressed potential environmental concerns and outlined a number of mitigation measures that can be undertaken in relation to habitat protection, pollution control and lighting.
With the implementation of the mitigation measures the NIS found: “The proposed works do not have the potential to significantly affect the conservation objectives or qualifying interests of the Lough Ree SAC and SPA. The integrity of these sites will not be adversely affected.”
Submissions are open for four weeks after the appeal was initially lodged.
