The Roscommon Ploughing Association will hold its 30th County Ploughing Championships on Sunday, May 5, on a site provided by Paddy Beirne and family in Farragher, Ballinaheglish.
A media launch of the Ploughing Championships was held recently before a large attendance in McDermott’s lounge in Ballinheglish.
The launch heard that it was a great honour for the parish of Ballinaheglish to host the Roscommon Ploughing Associations event in its 30th year on Paddy Beirne’s farm.
Mr Beirne is a founding member of the Roscommon Ploughing Association and annually represents Roscommon at the National Ploughing Championships and is also a former All-Ireland ploughing title winner.
The Ploughing Championships are the first major agricultural showcase event of the year in the county, showcasing all forms of ploughing techniques.
More than 3,000 people are expected to attend from all over the country to both visit and compete.
Chairperson of the Roscommon Ploughing Association Ger Grehan said the event was very much a family occasion and went on to thank all those involved in organising the championships and the many businesses for their support. The main sponsor this year is businessman Sean Mulryan.
The launch was told that there will be a host of attractions for all the family on the day including the ever popular craft village, vintage machinery demonstrations, and children's activities.
