Gardaí are set to exhume the body of Roosky farmer Liam Farrell as part of a renewed probe into the circumstances surrounding his suspicious death six years ago.

According to RTÉ’s Prime Time, the exhumation will be carried out in the coming weeks by the Garda Serious Crime Review Team (SCRT) carrying out a cold case review  into Mr Farrell's death.

Following a sustained campaign by his family to seek answers, the new Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly announced last October that a SCRT would be carrying out a review into their father’s death.

The Prime Time programme further outlines that State Pathologist, Professor Linda Mulligan, is expected to carry out a new post-mortem examination on the remains of the 87-year-old widower.

The programme also reveals that the process to seek an order from the Justice Minister to permit the exhumation is at an advanced stage.

The Farrell family strongly believes their father was the subject of an assault before he suffered a heart attack.

An inquest into the widower’s death held in September 2024 heard how he was discovered by family members at the back door of his home on January 12th 2020.

He was covered in blood with his shoes and socks removed, his watch broken and bruising to his left eye and his feet. The jury recorded an open verdict into his death.
