Breaking news: Full recount called for Boyle LEA

The drama continues in the Roscommon local elections as a full recount has been called in the Boyle area.

Following the ninth count Fine Gael’s Dympna Daly Finn requested the recount as there are just three votes in the difference between her and her party colleague Liam Callaghan.

The Arigna candidate has 992 votes while sitting Cllr Callaghan has 995 votes following the distribution of the surplus of Leah Cull’s 10 votes.

She had been elected on Sunday evening surpassing the quota of 1,628 with a total vote of 1,638.

The count has now been suspended until 12 noon today (Monday).

So far Cllrs Valerie Byrne, Leah Cull and Micheal Frain have been elected in this six seater district.

It is expected that Fianna Fail's Sean Moylan and sitting Independent Cllr Tom Crosby will take the other two seats.

Meanwhile in the Athlone area another battle is developing between Sinn Fein’s Sam Brooks and Dominick Connolly.
