Castlerea town is set for a sizable jobs boost with the planned development of council owned lands by three companies.

The sale of the three pieces of land at the Demesne in the town were approved by councillors at their plenary meeting on Monday afternoon. The development of the lands is set to lead to significant job creation.

The three lots in the same area comprise 1.98 acres, 1.63 acres and a half acre. They are being purchased respectively by Pat Murphy of Connaught Contractors Ltd for €90,000, Jim Bergin of All-Star Shredding for €60,000 and Pat Colleran of Colleran Building and Civil Engineering for €25,000.

Proposing two of the sales, Fianna Fáil councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice said that Connaughton Contractors planned to develop office buildings on the land with the possibility of some form of training provision. He pointed out that the company already employs more 200 people.

Cllr Fitzmaurice went on to say that All-Star Ltd was going to build “a fine building and create employment.” His colleague Cllr Marty McDermott’s proposal to approve the site purchase by Colleran Building and Civil Engineering was also approved.

Fine Gael councillor Ruth Conboy spoke about the difference it will make to see three industries coming to Castlerea. She acknowledged the work of the council in facilitating the land purchases and its effectiveness in developing industry across the county.

“Best of luck to all involved,” she said.
