The late Padraig Nugent.

Kilglass man Padraig Nugent who lost his life in a road tragedy in the area early on Sunday morning will be laid to rest on Thursday.

Padraig from Cullaghamore, Kilglass, was employed by Harte Civil Engineering Roosky where colleagues have remembered his as a “legend” who will be “irreplaceable”.

“It’s with a heavy heart we all at Harte Civil say goodbye to our work mate, our good friend and our neighbour the self-proclaimed legend that is Padraig Nugent,” said the company.

“One of our longest serving team members who never failed to disappoint. One of the hardest workers and definitely old school, would never let us down. Never missed a Monday and never missed a Christmas party! When he wasn’t busy completing tasks he kept his mates entertained with many a story particularly about his GAA conquests, one story being when we worked in Shannon Airport and a plane landed and the pilot came straight over to him and said he recognised him from flying over Roscommon and seeing him from the sky numerous times jumping thru the clouds to catch balls for Kilglass Gaels. He also took every opportunity to remind his longest running co-pilot Finbar McGowan about the fact he played senior football.

"Vacancies now open for six new lads cause Padraig always told us numerous times it would take six men to replace him! And he wasn’t too far wrong. The fact is he is irreplaceable. We are not just a business we are a big family and from all the Harte Civil family we send our deepest condolences and support to the Nugent and extended family in these sad times.”

Padraig was predeceased by his father, JP. He will be sadly missed by his beloved children, son Ryan, and daughter Megan (and her partner Callum); his adored Mum, Ann; sisters, Geraldine, Trish, and Helen, and brothers-in-law Alan and Michael (Mixer). He will also be missed by Padraig's one and only niece, Hannah; nephews, Steven and Tristan; Megan & Ryan’s mum, Claire; his uncle, Sean, and cousins, John, Michael, and Kevin; Padraig's best friends, Gerry McHugh and Peadar McGuire, very close friends, neighbours, extended family, and especially his beloved Kilglass Gaels community will miss him.

Padraig will repose in Leavy’s Funeral Home, Scramogue (F42 FD78) on Wednesday, October 8th from 5 p.m.-8 p.m.. Removal from his residence on Thursday to St Anne's Church, Slatta, for 12 noon Mass. He will be laid to rest afterwards in Scramogue Cemetery.
