Concern growing for welfare of missing man last seen on foot in North Roscommon

Manuel D ‘Costa had only been in Ireland one day when he left his friend’s house in Carrick-on-Shannon at 6am on May 16th and has been missing since.

Concern is growing for the welfare of a 48-year-old man who went missing from Carrick-on-Shannon just one day after arriving in the country and whose case has been classified as “high risk” by gardaí.

Gardaí have issued a public appeal for information, outlining that Manuel D ‘Costa had only been in Ireland one day when he left his friend’s house at Leitrim Road, Carrick-on-Shannon at 6 a.m. on May 16th.

A Garda spokesperson said that Mr D’Costa stated he was “going looking for work” and could not be persuaded to return to the house by friends.

His brother has travelled to Ireland from the UK to look for him but to no avail. At 21:15pm on May 16th he and his friend attended Carrick Garda Station to report Manuel as a missing person.

“Family and friends are very concerned as he was only in the country a day when he went missing, has very little English and does not know the area. He has no other contacts in the area and has no mobile phone that is working," say gardaí

Gardaí have classified it as high risk due to these factors. Current enquiries place Manuel as having been on foot in the Ballyfarnon/Keadue/Cootehall areas,” said gardaí.

An Indian national, he is described as being five foot six inches in height, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing black pants, a white t-shirt and a black hoodie.

Anyone with information should contact gardaí at Carrick-on-Shannon on 071 9650510 or the garda confidential line on 1800 666111.
