A Strokestown grandmother has been nominated for the 2026 Beko & Woman’s Way Mum of the Year Awards.

Margaret Hagan, a mother of seven and grandmother of 11, was nominated by her daughter, Rita Kelly. Originally from the Slieve Bawn area, Margaret and her husband Gerry spent time living in England before returning home to live in Scramogue, Strokestown to raise their family.

A family person through and through, she worked as a carer for over a decade and also helped out on the farm where her dedication to her family remained at the core of her own life.

In the latest edition of Woman’s Way Magazine, she opens up about the heartache of losing her son, Gerry Jr., followed by a series of medical issues.

The awards celebrate Ireland’s amazing mothers and shine a light on women who quietly and consistently make life better, for their families, society and everyone around them.

Open to mums throughout Ireland, the accolade gives spouses, children, relatives, friends and community groups the opportunity to recognise and reward the fantastic work mums do for their families and friends. A landmark event in the social calendar, the awards celebrate the strength, dedication and community contribution of mothers in Ireland.

Finalists will be treated to a fabulous afternoon at a special awards ceremony later in the year where the title as Beko & Woman’s Way Mum of the Year Award will be awarded.
