Roscommon County Council has granted planning permission to a North Roscommon school for the construction of a single storey, five classroom SEN extension to the north-east gable of the existing school block.

The development at Croghan NS will also include an extension to classroom three of the existing school block, the relocation of two existing pre-fabricated SET classroom units and the removal of a single prefabricated toilet block.

The planning documents note that the site, which measures approximately 0.97 hectares, provides the existing school buildings catering for a student population of 173.

The extension stems from the school requiring purpose-built facilities for 30 of these pupils currently attending ASD/SEN services.

These students are dispersed around the school in unsuitable accommodation including older prefabricated units, the planning documents outline.

The new facility will provide two purpose-built early intervention classrooms and three ASD/SEN service classrooms along with a central activities space.

The proposed development will also provide an additional 15 car parking spaces to bring the overall parking complement to 28 onsite car-parking spaces.
