A major fundraising drive has been launched by Tulsk NS in a bid to raise €20,000 towards the provision of a new Astro-Turf pitch for the school.

The ‘Be a Player Buy a Square’ fundraiser is a unique way of getting the community, past pupils and members of the Tulsk Diaspora involved in the initiative.

The overall cost of the project is €75,000, with €50,000 being made available through a CLÁR Grant and a further €5,850 raised by parents Ed and Jennifer Payne.

Principal of Tulsk NS Sinéad Parker explained the importance of  the new all-weather surface for the school: “We have a green area that is out of bounds for a lot of the academic year due to the wet and muddy conditions. As a staff we recognise the importance of physical education for our pupils and we feel an Astro-Turf pitch would greatly assist us with wellbeing promotion,” she said.

Tulsk NS is reaching out to families and friends, pupils past and present along with local businesses to sponsor a square for the project.

A square costs €250 as part of the fundraiser and in return a donor will be able to have a pupil or family name inscribed on a plaque, which will be mounted on the outside wall of the school as a mark of appreciation. An option to purchase a half square for €125 is also available.

Ms Parker thanked everyone for all donations made. “We are aware it is a substantial donation and are appreciative of all donations made. We are going to invite everyone who made a donation back for the opening and to unveil the plaque mounted as appreciation,” she said.

Donations can be made to the school and can be made as part of a one off payment or two equal €125 instalments. The school is also accepting bank transfer payments at BIC: BOFIIE2D; IBAN: IE09 BOFI 9054 75145831 39. Anyone paying by bank transfer is asked to attach a note specifying their name so it can be appropriately recorded.
