County Roscommon to fare poorly in a zombie apocalypse

They're coming to get you Barbara

County Roscommon has been named as the ‘Worst Place to Survive a Last of Us Zombie Apocalypse in Ireland’.

We know, we’re in shock too. A recount is in order.

According to an analysis, County Roscommon topped the list as the worst county in Ireland to survive a zombie apocalypse, with a survival score of just 178.8.

‘The Last of Us’ season 2 has taken over our screens, showing just how hard survival can be in a world overrun by Runners, Stalkers, Clickers and Bloaters. But what if that world was Ireland?

Legacy Communications, a creative digital PR and communications agency conducted a study analysing several data points including CSO data to create the Zombie Apocalypse Survival Index, revealing the best and worst counties for staying alive if an apocalypse like in The Last of Us ever hit Ireland.

They examined seven key survival factors, including population density, the distance to pharmacies, A&E units and supermarkets, as well as access to agricultural land, fresh water and high point mountainous areas, all crucial for avoiding becoming zombie-bait.

Where not to be if the infected arrive:

•Roscommon

•Monaghan

•Longford

•Leitrim

•Clare

•Offaly

•Carlow

•Donegal

•Westmeath

•Kilkenny

“Roscommon ranks as the worst county in Ireland to survive a zombie apocalypse, with a survival score of 178.8. It may seem peaceful with a low population density of just 27.6 people per km², but don’t let that fool you — it's not built for survival,” the company said. “Access to emergency services is poor, with the nearest A&E 43.2 km away and pharmacies 6 km out, making any supply run a dangerous gamble. While it does offer 9,162 hectares of lakes for water, in a crisis, long distances can mean the difference between life and death.”

It wasn't good news locally with Longford ranking third worst with a survival score of 220.1.

"Leitrim ranks fourth with a score of 231.2. Leitrim may be beautiful, but it won’t save you. With 8,367 hectares of lakes and stunning scenery, it looks like the perfect escape," the company said. "But pharmacies are 5.7 km away and the nearest A&E is nearly 38 km out. In an emergency, even a small injury could become a big problem. It feels calm until it isn’t."

Mícheál Brennan, Head of Search Marketing at Legacy Communications commented:

“While this research is, of course, tongue-in-cheek, it’s built on real data and highlights how access to resources like food, water and healthcare can make all the difference in a survival scenario.

“Whether you’d be heading for the hills or not, this index gives a light-hearted look at which counties might offer the best shot at staying safe — and which ones you might want to avoid if the unthinkable ever happened.

“So, while you're counting down the days until the next episode, you can start planning your survival strategy... Just in case!” For more information visit here
