Castlerea town is set for a major jobs boost with the pending sale of council owned lands to three companies.

The sale of the three pieces of land at the Demesne in the town are set to be approved by councillors at their plenary meeting on Monday.

It’s understood the development of these lands by the three companies involved, Connaught Contractors Ltd, All-Star Shredding and PC Construction will provide a major jobs boost for the town.

Civil engineering company Connaught Contractors Ltd has existing offices in Roscommon and Galway; PC Construction is based in Castlerea while Fairymount firm, All-Star Shredding specialises in both paper and hard drive shredding.

“I think it is going to create significant employment in the area and it’s exciting times to see these lands being developed,” said local Fianna Fail councillor, Paschal Fitzmaurice.

Cllr Fitzmaurice said he was strongly in favour of seeing the development of this land, which had lain “idle” for twenty years or more.

“A number of people approached me and Roscommon County Council with a view to developing land to create employment. And there are three companies that the council have considered appropriate for that. These are the pieces of land being proposed to be sold to them,” he explained.

The three lots are on the same piece of land, comprising 1.98 acres, 0.6 of an acre and 1.6 acres respectively.

“I want to thank Roscommon County Council for being proactive in developing the lands,” said Cllr Fitzmaurice.
