Revenue seize contraband worth over €389,000 in Athlone and Dublin

The herbal cannabis and butane honey seized in Athlone this week.

Over 1.1 kg of herbal cannabis and 100 grammes of butane honey oil with an estimated value of approximately €24,000 was seized by Revenue officers examining parcels at a premises in Athlone this week.

The seizures were assisted by Enzo, a detector dog. The parcels originated in France and were destined for addresses in Westmeath and Kildare.

“Investigations into all of these seizures are ongoing,” a statement from Revenue said.

Separately this week, Revenue officers examining parcels at a premises in Dublin seized over 18.3 kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of over €365,500.

The illicit drugs were discovered in parcels originating in the USA, Canada, Thailand and Spain and were destined for addresses in Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow, Laois and Northern Ireland.

The contraband was variously declared as ‘kids toys’, ‘kids puzzles’ and ‘tracksuits’.
