School among premises hit in overnight series of burglaries in County Roscommon

Gardai are investigating an incident of burglary in the Loughglynn area.

A school in West Roscommon was among a number of premises broken into in an overnight series of burglaries across the county.

The Roscommon Herald understands that the school was targeted alongside businesses in the Tulsk and Loughglynn areas.

Gardai have confirmed that they received a report of an incident of burglary that occurred at approximately 2.30 a.m. on September 6th, in the Loughlynn area of the county.

The statement said that no arrests had been made and that investigations were ongoing.

Local Councillors Seán Moylan and Micheál Frain have called for more resources to be given to Gardaí in rural areas.

“If the government don’t want to see the whole lot of them (businesses) closing, they’re going to have to get on top of this crimewave, because if they don’t, these villages and towns will have nothing left, because people won’t tolerate it,” said Cllr Moylan.

“We’re sitting ducks,” agreed Cllr Frain.

“It’s open season for thieves with the lack of Gardaí. I’d say in the country, per capita and geographically, it's the biggest population that’s under-policed in the state, it’s bad,” he remarked.
