Elderly pedestrian dies in County Roscommon road traffic accident
An elderly pedestrian in his eighties has died following a road traffic accident earlier this evening in Castlerea.
Shortly after 6 p.m., Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the R377 on the outskirts of the town.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The scene is being preserved for a technical examination by forensic collision investigators and the local coroner has been notified. The motorist did not require immediate medical treatment.
The road remains closed with local diversions in place.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
