Fitzmaurice and McDermott re-elected to Roscommon municipal district
Marty McDermott and Paschal Fitzmaurice following their re-election to Roscommon County Council with Bernie Kearney and Pat Heneghan.
Out-going Fianna Fail councillors Paschal Fitzmaurice and Marty McDermott have been returned to Roscommon Municipal District on the first count with both exceeding the quota.
With a turn-out of 10,536 and a total valid poll of 10,434, with 102 spoiled votes, the quota was 1491.
Paschal Fitzmaurice, who topped the poll in 2019, achieved 1853 first preference votes while McDermott received 1626. The two men were hoisted high by members of the large crowd at the count centre at the Hyde in Roscommon.
Fitzmaurice’s surplus of 362 will now be divided up.

The count also shows that their party colleague Larry Brennan received 1198 votes, Independent Nigel Dineen is on 1298 , Fine Gael’s Gareth Scahill is on 1168 and Anthony Waldron with 1390 votes.
It is anticipated that Fianna Fail will retain the three seats in this area.
The first count for the Boyle Municipal District has yet to take place.
