Freezing temperatures and a risk of snow this weekend could cause disruption to All-Ireland club football semi-finals involving County Roscommon clubs, St. Brigid’s and Strokestown.
Temperatures are set to plummet across the country from New Year’s Day (Thursday), with Met Éireann predicting that conditions are set to become “very cold” next weekend with “the potential for some wintry precipitation”.
Forecasters are warning that temperatures are set to fall well below freezing at night, with some areas unlikely to see temperatures above 0c by day, meaning a risk of frozen pitches, especially in the northern half of the country.
Strokestown are set to get the ball rolling on Saturday in Fr Tierney Park, Ballyshannon, against Glenullin where there is an early throw-in time of 12.30 p.m..
On Sunday, St. Brigid’s are scheduled to meet Scotstown in their All-Ireland senior semi-final at Kingspan Breffni, Cavan, at 3 p.m..
The FBD Connacht League is also set to get underway this weekend, with Roscommon playing Leitrim in Orchard Park, Elphin, on Sunday at 1 p.m..
Supporters are being asked to keep in touch with weather updates and guidance from the GAA and their clubs over the coming days.
