From Tulsk to Lapland – unique walking challenge underway

The entire club and the wider community have embraced the effort, with growing numbers out walking under the lights every Tuesday and Thursday evening.

St. Mary’s LGFA, Tulsk, a club well-known for its willingness to try something new to raise funds is at it again.

After an incredible few years of development, the people of Tulsk and the wider community are taking on their biggest challenge yet… walking the distance to Lapland.

This unique fundraiser will see the community attempt to walk 2,499 km in just 24 hours, the distance from Tulsk to Lapland.

Hoping to enter 2026 debt-free after completing the new pitch and walking track, the Tulsk LGFA ladies have launched this imaginative event to help clear the remaining balance of the remarkable €700,000 development. The entire club and the wider community have embraced the effort, with growing numbers out walking under the lights every Tuesday and Thursday evening.

The challenge will culminate in a 24-hour walking marathon from 3 p.m. on St. Stephen’s Day to 3 p.m. on December 27th. Between them, participants aim to complete 4,998 laps of the new pitch to cover the full distance and achieve this mammoth goal.

Anyone hoping to walk off the Christmas dinner or simply be part of something special is encouraged to get involved on the day itself or in the lead-up to the big event. It promises to be a fantastic community occasion so don't miss out.

In addition to the big walk there is also a waxathon taking place in O'Connor’s Pub, Tulsk on Sunday, December 21st which is guaranteed to provide plenty of entertainment for the eager spectators.
