Had phone in his possession at prison

A 33-year-old man was given a concurrent jail sentence at Castlerea District Court for possession of a phone at Castlerea Prison.

Gerard Barry, with an address at the prison, pleaded guilty to the possession of a black Zanco mobile phone at the prison on December 16th, 2025 without permission.

His solicitor Bríd Miller said that her client, who has 56 previous convictions, was taking full responsibility for possession of the phone.

She added her instructions were there was no sim card in the phone.

Judge Faughnan asked if there was WiFi in the prison, remarking “how does the Netflix work?”
