Local Garda remembered in football competition

The Garda Cup Final was played yesterday evening in memory of a much loved local Garda.

The competition is played in memory of the late Sergeant John Kelly of Boyle Garda Station, and it was an enthralling game of football between Western Gaels and Strokestown at Abbey Park, Boyle.

Garda Tanya Duffy, Boyle Garda Station presented the Garda Cup to the winning captain, Patrick Sharkey. John’s wife Loyola presented the ‘Player of the Match’ to Noah Gill of Western Gaels.

Local Gardaí offered a big thank you to everyone involved in organising this brilliant competition.

Roscommon GAA also expressed its congratulations to Western Gaels. It also thanked referee, Larry Tiernan for officiating and to his team of officials as well as Boyle GAA & LGFA for hosting the final.

The Northern Board and local Gardaí, who donated and presented the medals, were also thanked.
