Man arrested in connection with investigation into Ballaghaderreen assault
Gardaí have arrested a man in connection with their investigation into a serious assault at Barrack Street, Ballaghadereen.
Gardaí have arrested a man in connection with their investigation into a serious assault at Barrack Street, Ballaghadereen, on January 1st.
The man, aged in his 40s, is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the Garda North Western Region.
Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
Earlier this afternoon gardaí issued an appeal for witnesses into the "serious assault" in the early hours of Thursday, January 1st.
The incident occurred on Barrack Street at around 1 a.m..
A male, aged in his 30s, was brought to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, where he remains in a critical condition.
A senior investigating officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established at Castlerea Garda Station.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.
