A 57-year-old man was fined at Roscommon District Court for careless driving.
Viktor Tikhonko, 42 Castlemanor, Racecourse Road, Roscommon Town, pleaded guilty to careless driving on August 2nd, 2024. He was originally charged with dangerous driving but the state agreed to reduce this to the lesser offence of careless driving.
The court heard from Sergeant Enda Daly that on the morning of the date in question, a two car collision occurred at Cloghan, Four Roads. There were minor injuries to the other driver and the accused spent a couple of days in hospital with an injury to his arm, the court was told.
“It was obvious that the defendant was driving too fast,” Sergeant Daly said.
Defence solicitor Aoife O’Callaghan said her instructions were that her client had to swerve into a ditch in order to avoid a head on collision. She said he was bringing his niece to Portiuncula University Hospital at the time.
Judge Faughnan allowed the prosecution to be reduced from dangerous driving to careless driving and he fined the accused €500.
