Three Roscommon entries have been awarded medals at this year’s Bloom Festival.

Bord Bia Bloom, which cultivates sustainable living and excellence in garden design, is regarded as Ireland’s favourite festival of flowers, food and fun and took place over the Bank Holiday weekend.

A Show Garden award was given to Rathcroghan Ogham Alphabet Garden, designed by Richard Farrell & Team and sponsored by Farming Rathcroghan CLG/Rathcroghan Visitor Centre. It was under the category ‘small’ and attained a silver medal.

A postcard garden entitled ‘Magic of the Kingdom That Lies Beneath and Above Through the Power of Brigid’ by Uí Máine Kingdom, Ballinasloe was commended while a Plant Nursery silver award was also given to Strokestown’s Little Green Growers.

Congratulating the award winners Jim O’Toole, Bord Bia Chief Executive, said: “It is wonderful to see such a strong focus on sustainability and biodiversity among our stunning show gardens this year and I would like to congratulate all of the designers who have been working incredibly hard for months to bring our show to life. We are confident that attendees will leave, not only with fantastic inspiration for their garden, but also with the motivation to incorporate more sustainable practices into their homes and lifestyles.”
