Minister meets with childcare group and business people Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers met with the Boyle Community Childcare Committee during a whistlestop tour of the county this morning, Monday.

He is also having discussions with members of the business community in the town and later today will meet with town teams and business owners in Castlerea and Roscommon.

The minister, at the invitation of Dr Martin Daly TD, met the childcare care group at the Boyle Family Resource Centre where they highlighted a recent report they carried out which shows a critical lack of spaces for children in the town.

According to a the report there is a total of 63 childcare places within the primary catchment area, with no availability for the 2025/2026 year. Other facilities in the wider catchment area are similarly full with waiting periods of one to two years.

It is hoped by meeting with the Minister that there can be some progress made in providing a much needed facility in the area.

Cllr Sean Moylan who attended the meeting also raised the need for urgent upgrade works on the N61 in order to encourage economic development in the area. He also spoke to Minister Chambers about the situation regarding the lack of car parking at Carrick-on-Shannon train station in Cortober.

Following the Boyle visit the Minister is meeting with business groups, community groups and local representatives in Castlerea and Roscommon in a bid to get a general overview of the economic status of the towns and any business concerns they might have. They hope to discuss the challenges facing businesses such as competitiveness and issues in relation to the upcoming budget.
