More reliable water supply on the way for County Roscommon village

Improvements to the water supply in Cloonfad, West Roscommon, are set to get underway over the coming days.
Uisce Éireann has said that customers in a County Roscommon village can look forward to a more reliable water supply ahead of improvement works that are set to get underway in the coming days.
Uisce Éireann has prioritised more than 2.8km of old water mains for replacement in Cloonfad, which will not only give homes and businesses in the areas more confidence in their supply, but the new pipework will put an end to leakage of treated water into the ground.
Crews will be carrying out this water main replacement project in Gurteen, Cloonfad, along the L6671-0 and L-66005, between Gorteenacammadil and Moigh Upper in West Roscommon.
The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply.
Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager Enda MacNamara is looking forward to delivering the project for customers in Cloonfad.
“This essential work is part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to improve the water network across the country, prioritising investment where it is needed most, enabling these communities to thrive. We would like to thank customers in Cloonfad in advance for their cooperation and patience while we complete these works,” he said.
To deliver the works safely and efficiently, a road closure will be necessary from Monday, March 31st to Friday, July 25th, in different stages on the L-6671-0 and L-66005 as the works progress.
Diversion routes will be in place and the community can be assured that local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
“We understand that this type of work is inconvenient, and our crews are making every effort to minimise disruption to the local community. These works are vital to reduce leakage in Cloonfad and ensure security of supply now and into the future, with the long-term benefits far outweighing any short-term inconvenience,” continued Mr MacNamara.
These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruptions.
Farrans Construction are carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann which are expected to be completed by summer 2025.
