A neutrality roadshow will be in Roscommon Town this evening, Wednesday, as part of an extended tour hosting conversations with local communities about the alleged dangers to Irish neutrality if the government dismantles the Triple Lock.
The open public event will take place in the cafe at Gleeson’s of Roscommon Town at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26th.
In March, the government brought draft legislation to Cabinet to dismantle the Triple Lock, a mechanism that regulates the deployment of Irish Defence Forces overseas.
Neutrality Roadshow participants Niamh Ní Bhriain and Fionn Wallace said: “Legislating to remove the Triple Lock will put people in harm’s way.
“This is not only reckless, it is also anti-democratic considering the overwhelming popular support for neutrality.”
The roadshow hosts speakers from diverse backgrounds, including peace activists and anti-war campaigners, former peace-keepers, legal scholars, academics, writers, and artists.
It forms part of a broader campaign launched earlier this year to keep Ireland neutral and save the Triple Lock.
