The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) has launched new community-based services in Roscommon Town and Castlerea.
These new monthly services – a social club, a support group, and a memory café – are designed to offer safe, welcoming spaces for people with dementia, their carers, and loved ones to connect, share experiences, and access information in their own community.
An estimated 1,108 people live with dementia in the county, with over 64,000 affected nationwide.
“We’re thrilled to launch these much-needed services in Roscommon,” said Carol Molloy, regional operations manager for the Northwest. Living with dementia can feel isolating, but with the right support close to home, people can continue to live well and feel connected.”
These services – which are free of charge – are open to anyone affected by dementia, whether recently diagnosed, a family carer, or someone seeking information and support.
“People appreciate having somewhere local to visit, that’s friendly and informal - a support outlet. It can make a huge difference just to have a chat with someone who understands,” said Michelle Shiel, Castlerea day manager.
These new services are in addition to the ASI’s existing offerings in the county, including day care, day care at home, and dementia adviser support.
