Replacing the Roscommon department of psychiatry (DOP) has been flagged as a priority in the HSE Capital Plan for this year. The plan was published today.
According to today's announcement, plans for the replacement of the adult mental health unit at Roscommon University Hospital will progress this year, with the project at appraisal stage.
As reported in the Herald earlier this year, plans for a new 35 bed DOP unit at RUH have gone back to the drawing board, with a new 50 bed unit now planned.
Minister for Mental Health, Mary Butler today announced a significant €31 million capital investment for mental health in 2025, as part of the capital plan.
This is the largest ever one-year allocation for mental health infrastructure and forms part of the Government’s broader commitment to delivering modern, fit-for-purpose mental health facilities, the Department of Health said.
The capital plan also commits to progressing the design of the long awaited rehabilitation unit at Roscommon University Hospital. This phase 1 stage will involve the provision of ten beds.
Another local development, the replacement of the Central Sterile Services Decontamination (CSSD) Unit at Portiuncula University Hospital is at design feasibility stage. The CSSD cleans medical and surgical equipment and it will also provide a service for RUH.
