There are 24 school building projects in County Roscommon in the Department of Education's construction schedule, including extensions planned at seven of the county’s secondary schools.

There are also extensions planned at 10 primary schools around the county.

The secondary schools at various early stages of planning for extensions include CBS Roscommon, the Mercy College, Roscommon Community College, all in Roscommon Town; St Nathy’s College, Ballaghaderreen; Elphin Community College; Coláiste Chiaráin, Athlone; and Abbey Community College, Boyle.

According to the response to a parliamentary question, the department said that since 2020, it has provided €72.09 million in capital funding for Roscommon schools.

“Over this period, a total of 31 schools have been upgraded either through provision of a new school building, a large-scale extension or the provision of modular accommodation,” the department said.

At the moment, there are currently six school projects in the county under construction, and one school project to go to tender or construction in 2026 and 2027.
