A "one in a million" set of lamb quintuplets have been born on a farm in Oran.

A ewe on Michael Fallon’s farm in Clooneenbaun defied the one in a million odds of giving birth to five lambs in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

During her pregnancy, the 5-year-old sheep had been scanned to have three lambs but two other surprises arrived.

“I was watching her on the camera and she threw herself down and had three. And then it looked like she was going to have another one and when I got out to the shed, she had another two.

“Thankfully, she and all her lambs are doing well,” explained Michael.

The five new arrivals won’t all be feeding off their mother so he will be ensuring each of them will be getting their milk.

Several triplets have been born on Michael's farm but the prospects of a sheep giving birth to quintuplets is very rare.

The mother of the five Charolais lambs has had about six lambs previous to this so needless to say, this will be a particularly busy time for her as she watches over her brood.
