A popular coffee shop and B&B in the heart of Ballygar has announced its closure decision.

Writing on Ballygar Banter, owner of the Coffee Drop Bed & Breakfast, Pat Greally, said that it was “with a heavy heart” that the time had come for him to announce the closing of the Coffee Drop Bed & Breakfast on August 15th.

“This wasn’t an easy decision, and it comes after a great deal of reflection. Before I go any further, I must express my deepest gratitude to the incredible people who have made The Coffee Drop what it is,” he said.

“First and foremost, a heartfelt thank you to my loyal staff, both past and present. You are the backbone of this place, and I especially want to acknowledge Denise, Samantha, Amy, Tanya, Cassie and Emily for their unwavering dedication and hard work.

“To the local school and its dedicated teachers, thank you for entrusting me with your Transition Year students over the years. They’ve kept me young at heart and certainly kept me on my toes!

“To Jane, thank you for keeping the books balanced and the financial ship sailing smoothly. And to all our suppliers, thank you for providing us with the ingredients and resources we needed to serve you.

“A special shout-out to Melissa and her team at the community launderette. You’ve consistently provided a wonderful and essential service to our community.

“And of course, to the hard-working members of the Tidy Towns Committee – you are the unsung heroes who tirelessly work to keep Ballygar tidy and vibrant. Your beautiful flowers have brought so much joy and colour to The Coffee Drop, and I am eternally grateful for your dedication. You are truly amazing.

“For the past 18 years, it has been my absolute pleasure to run the Coffee Drop Bed & Breakfast. Getting to know each and every one of you, young and old, has been the greatest reward. You’ve dropped in for a cup of tea, a coffee, a scone, a meal, and most importantly, a chat.

“Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your unwavering custom. Within these walls, we’ve shared laughter and tears, engaged in spirited debates, discussed world problems and politics, dissected GALWAY football and hurling (and of course, other teams!), shared jokes, and, most importantly, listened to each other when it was needed most. Your loyalty and friendship mean the world to me.

“So, as we prepare to close this chapter, I want to express my sincere gratitude for the privilege of serving you. Here’s to the next chapter for all of us! It has been an absolute honour and a privilege. Slán go fóill, adh mór agus go raibh míle maith agat. Goodbye for now, much love, and a thousand thanks,” said Pat.
