Storm Éowyn is expected to make landfall in the early hours of Friday morning.

One of the most severe storms to hit Ireland in decades has seen the whole country put under a Red warning for wind on Friday morning.

Met Éireann has adjusted the timing for a “danger to life” Red warning for County Roscommon, which is now between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) morning.

Wind gusts of between 130km/h and 150km/h are expected during this period.

The county will be under a Status Orange wind warning between midnight and 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Schools and childcare facilities across the county will remain closed.

The national forecaster says that gale to storm force southwest to west winds will pack extreme, damaging and destructive gusts in excess of 130km/h.

Impacts include danger to life, extremely dangerous travelling conditions, unsafe working conditions, disruption and cancellations to transport, many fallen trees, significant and widespread power outages, impacts to communications networks, cancellation of events, and structural damage.

It is expected that the entire country will be hit with disruption and cancellations to events and transport, with homeowners warned of significant and widespread power outages and interruption to communications networks, including phone and internet service.
