Two local stores set to close due to retail chain shutdown
The Born Clothing stores in Carrick-on-Shannon and Athlone are set to close.
Irish retail chain Born Clothing is to close its stores in Carrick-on-Shannon and Athlone as part of the closure of its remaining 15 outlets nationwide, resulting in the loss of more than 100 jobs.
The company, which opened its first store in Galway in 2009, announced the news in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
The High Court appointed provisional liquidators to the group on Tuesday.
It’s understood that the women and men’s fashion chain experienced difficulties due to a number of factors, including the Covid-19 pandemic, increases in the minimum wage, and high business rates.
A closing down sale has begun in its stores, with up to 70 per cent off everything.
However, a notice on the company’s website also states that gift vouchers can no longer be accepted as the business is in liquidation.
The Born Clothing store, based in the Roscommon Retail Park, ceased trading last year.
