Athletes from across the province — including a strong contingent from County Roscommon — delivered outstanding performances at the recent Connacht Indoor Championships in Athlone.
Held over two days at the state-of-the-art TUS Athlone Indoor Arena, the event featured children, teenagers and young adults competing in a wide range of disciplines. From explosive 60 metre sprints to demanding 600 metre races, and from the shot putt circle to the high jump area, athletes chased podium finishes while also striving for personal bests.

Reeside AC, which serves much of the South Roscommon area, fielded more than 20 athletes across multiple events, with several competitors recording new PBs. Among the standout performers was Emily Clyne, who claimed gold in both the long jump and the U-17 high jump.
Roscommon Athletics Club also enjoyed a highly successful weekend. Nathan Hoban stormed to gold in the U-14 boys’ 60 metres, clocking a superb personal best of 8.15 seconds. Numerous other members of the club delivered impressive displays throughout the championships.
Fantastic athletes from Castlerea Crusaders AC and Suck Valley AC also took part.
Spectators and participants also had the opportunity to support the development of the county’s proposed new 400 metres, eight-lane track in Roscommon Town by entering the Win a Garden Room and Kitchen draw.

Entrants are in with a chance to win a garden room from Lidan valued at €65,000, along with a bespoke Mark Lohan kitchen worth €25,000 — all while contributing to a major community sporting project.
The planned track, to be located at Lisnamult, Roscommon Town, aims to become “a hub of excellence, where athletes of all ages and abilities can train, compete, and achieve their dreams.”
